Both by now. The fork was motivated by the fact that essential assets (the domain and trademarks) got in the hand of the for-profit Gitea Ltd., allowing them to do what they want.
Later, they did: The homepage now advertizes SaaSS services that are not fully free and is selling an Enterprise version.
I just love the fact that @drewdevault applied #REUSE from the start to make the different licensing transparent - it's a perfect use case, and it shows that the author cares about unambiguity and sustainability.

What is Friendica

Ensure that the last backup of your Friendica installation was done recently.
Using Git
Updating from the git repositories should only involve a pull from the Friendica core repository and addons repository, regardless of the branch (stable or develop) you are using. Remember to update the dependencies with composer as well. So, assuming that you are on the stable branch, the commands to update your installation to the 2024.03 release would be cd friendica git pull bin/composer.phar install --no-dev cd addon git pull If you want to use a different branch than the stable one, you need to fetch and checkout the branch before your perform the git pull.
Pulling in the dependencies with composer will show some deprecation warning, we will be working on that in the upcoming release.
Using the Archive Files
We experience some problem with the build process for the addon archive of the stable branch and will add instruction how to upgrade your installation using the archive files as soon as possible.
Post Update Tasks
The database update should be applied automatically, but sometimes it gets stuck. If you encounter this, please initiate the DB update manually from the command line by running the script bin/console dbstructure update from the base of your Friendica installation. If the output contains any error message, please let us know using the channels mentioned below.
Please note, that some of the changes to the database structure will take some time to be applied, depending on the size of your Friendica database.

@Wilhelm the posting has a summary, which is an AP field that is mis-used as CW by some. And TBH mis-labeled IMO in the Friendica UI; but yes the effect is expected.

Personally I never felt the need to give a summary of the post I am about to send. This can easily be done in the post itself. The current usage in friendica is very confusing and I think it should be changed to match how users actually use the field. So +1 for changing that naming to Content Warning.
Besides that, I am not a fan of having to "Click to open/close" to get to the actual post. I think the idea of a post summary is not how real world usage of the Fediverse works. It complicates the usage and is not what I would expect as behavior. In case of the release notes, first I see a "Content Warning" but then depending on your interpretation, that content warning is misused when compared with the majority of the Fediverse. And in order to get to the actual release notes I need engage manually which is annoying.
@Cdespinosa I remember bringing one of these home on the plane from Apple just after they were released (original non backlit). Took it as cabin luggage, didn't trust the checkin. There was absolutely no way of using it on the plane :)

@dd0ul Ich finde immer JT9 wir viel zu wenig benutzt. Wenn man mal sieht wie viel weiter das noch im Rauschen funktioniert im vergleich zu FT8 ist das schon sehr beeindruckend.
@dd0ul Weil JT9 nochmals länger sendet als FT8. Eine Minute lang, glaube ich. Das ist nochmals zäher als JS8 im Slow-Mode, und man hat bei JT9 leider auch keinen Freitext wie bei JS8, sondern kann nur dieselben CQ-69-73-QSOs fahren wie bei FT8.
Für JS8 und evtl. JT9 bin ich übrigens auch zu haben.😃 In JN58 bei mir allerdings schwierig.

Mich ärgert es zunehmend, wenn #Zeitungen mich erst erpressen, ihre #Cookies zu akzeptieren und dann die Inhalte trotzdem nicht zeigen, sondern ich nach Akzeptieren der Cookies einfach nur den Teaser und den Hinweis kriege, dass ich den Artikel nur im Abo lesen kann. Warum muss ich dafür erst drölfzig Cookies akzeptieren? Ich halte das für unlauter und sammle Beispiele dafür jetzt mal unter dem Hashtag #cookieFalle. Macht gerne mit.

@StefanMuenz Damit hatte ich auch schon angefangen, wurde dann aber mangels simpler Umsetzung inkonsequent. Und das müssten ja viele machen und dafür bräuchte es nen Erklärtext. Und sobald genug Leute mitmachen wird das nicht dazu führen, dass sie ihre Cookie-Policy ändern, sondern die Ungehungshelfer irgendwie Probleme kriegen. Vielleicht bin ich da zu schwarzmalerisch, aber ich glaube ich würde diese Praxis am liebsten direkt juristisch angehen. Hab nur gerade leider nicht so die Zeit, da was anzurollen. Deshalb erst Mal der Hashtag und Beispiele sammeln.
Das Problem ist vielschichtig. Vielen Zeitungen nutzen externe Software. Diese basiert teilweise auf externen Quellen und bindet externe Tracking- und Werbetools ein. Dort werden Cookies gesetzt. Nach DSGVO ist hierfür Bannerpflicht. Also muss das Banner angezeigt werden. Das ist der Preis von kostenlosen/werbefinanzierten und privaten Nachricht. Wenn du ein Abo hast, fallen die Banner weg. Auf ÖRR-Seiten sollte es idealerweise gar keine geben.
@scotty86 Leider nein. Auch dort werden mir Cookies aufgenötigt oder Zusatzabos aufgedrängt, deren Anbieter an sich wohl wieder Profile erstellen. Einziger Unterschied: Ich kann den Artikel wenigstens lesen.

Früher hab ich bei so Erpresser-Bannern, die nur zwischen Cookies akzeptieren und Abo abschließen wählen lassen, dann halt den Tab geschlossen. Aber ich bin weich geworden. Wenns mich wirklich interessiert, akzeptiere ich dann halt zähneknirschend die Cookies (mit gedanklichem Verweis auf meine Cookie-Lösch-Policy im Browser). Aber in letzter Zeit passiert es so oft, dass ich es dann trotzdem nicht lesen kann, dass ich erwäge, zu meiner früheren Konsequenz zurück zu kehren.

@Erutario Es ist möglich, dass man wiedererkannt werden kann, auch ohne Cookies, zum Beispiel können Browser (inkl. Version), OS (inkl. Version) und Bildschirmgröße sowie Seitenskalierung und Fonts, die installiert sind einfach mit JS genutzt werden, um zumindest einen unter 10000 anderen wiedererkennen zu können. Im Prinzip ist dagegen das beste Add-Ons wie Scriptblocker und Chameleon (Header spoofer) zu nutzen.
@Wolkensteine @Erutario Ich würde einfach konsequent (zumindest für das Kommerzweb) nur den #TorBrowser verwenden. (Mache ich seit mindestens einem Jahrzehnt.)
Auf die paar Websites, die #Tor blockieren, kann ich verzichten – bzw. in einer Wegwerf-VM einen Standardbrowser über VPN verwenden, wenn’s wirklich wichtig sein sollte.
Dazu kann man auch – wie in Tails – noch uBlock origin nachinstallieren gegen den ganzen Werbemüll, ohne zuviel Anonymität aufzugeben, und noch magnolia1234s Bypass Paywalls Firefox Clean gegen einige Paywalls. Mehr braucht man dann nicht konfigurieren und ist bestmöglich geschützt, es ist einfach zu bedienen und man muß sich nicht durch zig Erweiterungen und Einstellungen wühlen.

Motivation The computers of today are too complex to understand. To the uninitiated, they feel overwhelming. They take a long time to boot. They offer cluttered interfaces with lots of icons, buttons, and options.
With a few more lines of BASIC, the output looks much more like the original 10 PRINT program. It is no longer a oneliner though and very, very slow on 8 Mhz Compact Macs. Still, I like it!

Good news from the Voyager 1 spacecraft that has been stuck sending a 0101 pattern since Nov 2023.
The team has long suspected the root cause to be a corrupted area of memory in the FDS computer. On Mar 1, they sent some commands to make the FDS skip around sections of memory. The data stream rcvd 45 hours later looked different and was decoded to contain a read-out of the entire FDS memory!

The Macintosh Two-Page Colour Classic was quite a handful. MacWorld Magazine described it as "Perfect for small business and people with two eyes, it's the most two-page two-screen colour classic we've seen. With its unique built-in double-degauss floppy disk eraser, it's also the most secure".

Finde den Beitrag merkwürdig. Klar ist man muss den Fußverkehr stärken und Fußgänger*innen schützen - auch vor Radfahrerenden. ABER das ganze wirkt wie whataboutism, denn das größte Problem und die größte Gefahr im Verkehr geht vom Auto aus. Period. Und das wird nur wenig herausgearbeitet, da ist dann der Fokus darauf wie gefährlich Lastenräder etc sein. Also das ist schon eine sehr verquere Wahrnehmung der Realitäten.
Ich finde die Diskussion zu diesem Punkt ja sehr interessant. Der Großteil der Leute, die hier postet, hat einen Windows PC, iOS/Android Handy und mehr als 1 Social Media Account. Aber wehe die deutsche Automobilindustrie möchte Daten nutzen. Das geht ja überhaupt nicht!
Es sollte mMn um die Ausgestaltung des gesetzlichen Rahmens gehen. Es muss transparent sein was wie genutzt wird und als Nutzer muss man die Wahl haben den Service abzulehnen.

It’s not just about being petty because of my utter contempt for Musk, although that admittedly is a part of it. It is also because like every other Musk venture it is about his aggregation of as much power, money, and adulation as possible no matter who gets fucked over even if it is literally the entire planet. One person should not have dictator for life control over access to an entire shell of space, EM spectrum bands, national charging networks, social networks, much less all of those and more. Starship is not primarily about getting to Mars to “preserve the light of humanity” despite his marketing bullshit. It is about Musk individually controlling global satellite internet and all terrestrial spectrum that would overlap it. It is about him controlling access to space so he can dictate to the any government on the planet including the US his whims and needs above everyone else’s. Musk is Exhibit A of my firm belief that billionaires should not exist.
