Unsere ganzen Anwendungen hatten bis sehr lange ins 21. Jahrhundert Schnittstellen zu Backends.
Ursprünglich war der ganze Wagenladungsverkehr darin. Von der Verteilung der Leerwagen über die Transportkette und die Abrechnung. Auch der Ticketverkauf mit Abrechnung der gedruckten und manuell ausgestellten Billette, Anteilszuscheidung an TU. Dann der ganze Fahrplan mit SyFA. Den konnte man schon sehr früh mit einer Erweiterung mit der Maus unter OS/2 grafisch zeichnen.
@oe_simon für die meisten Anwender war der «Pleitegeier» (schnöde Bezeichnung für das heutige Logo, welches so rund 1972 eingeführt wurde) im 3270-Emulator der Einstieg zum damaligen Mailprogramm «Memo», welches via Mainframe abgewickelt wurde. Das war noch im Zeitalter vor HTML-Mail und Internet. Konnte aber schon mit Formularen umgehen, welche enorme Produktivitätsschübe gaben.

Ah, thank you! As for space acronyms and initialisms, there’s a wild mixture, maybe that’s the reason people still write NASA. Flight Dynamics Officer would be an initialism, but is written FIDO and pronounced as a word (dogs at mission control? 😂), the landing module is still called „LEM“, but written „LM“ (the „exploration“ got removed but is still spoken) and so on you never know. 😆

One of the largest science funders, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will cease paying journal “article processing charges” and instead asks funded researchers to publish their work as preprints. This is fantastic. The costs of the current publishing system drain research funds and exclude too many scientists solely due to financial constraints. Funders are in a much better position to rock the “publishing” boat than researchers.

Ich binde die leeren Weinflaschen immer an Heliumballons und lasse sie fliegen.
Das wird auf Dauer etwas teuer - man braucht mehr Helium dafür als man im allgemeinen denken würde...

In Italien müssen Weinflaschen (und vermutlich andere Verpackungen) mittlerweile Entsorgungshinweise drauf haben:
"Die Flasche ist aus Glas - die soll in den Glascontainer"
"Der Karton ist aus Papier - Der soll in den Papiercontainer"
"Der Schraubverschluss ist aus Metall - Der soll in den Metallcontainer"
Das kommt dann wohl bald in der gesamten EU. Die nordischen Länder sehen sich schon von Italien überholt.
Im Ernst, früher haben wir über solche Konsumentenhinweise in den USA gelacht. Heute bleibt einem das Lachen im Hals stecken.
Die Schlagzeile passt da ganz gut ins Bild. Vielleicht sollten wir in Anlehnung an den Begriff "Enshittification" was vergleichbares dazu finden, wenn man Menschen die einfachsten Handlungeg erklären will, oder vielleicht sogar wirklich muss.

This release features the all new Toot-To-Speech (TTS) technology! Select any toot, click the Speak button, and Macstodon will read the toot back to you, using whatever voice you have selected in the Speech control panel. It works with MacinTalk 2, 3, and Pro, all the way down to 68020 machines running System 7.1.
Also featured in version 1.2 is improved stability and error handling. If Macstodon runs out of memory or encounters an unexpected error, it will save a log to the application folder, show you a dialog explaining what went wrong, and exit gracefully.
Of course, all the usual features are still there including timeline/profile browsing, toot posting, and interactions!

This seems to be discussed in https://github.com/friendica/friendica/pull/14019#issuecomment-2015127342 and I fully agree with the following statement:
"The ActivityPub protocol is completely hidden from end-users so I don't think it's relevant to use the protocol terminology in a user-facing form. I think we should stick to the main use for this field. Even if it's called differently in other platforms than Mastodon, if it is still displayed as content warning on those platforms, we should call it "content warning"."
Personally I never felt the need to give a summary of the post I am about to send. This can easily be done in the post itself. The current usage in friendica is very confusing and I think it should be changed to match how users actually use the field. So +1 for changing that naming to Content Warning.
Besides that, I am not a fan of having to "Click to open/close" to get to the actual post. I think the idea of a post summary is not how real world usage of the Fediverse works. It complicates the usage and is not what I would expect as behavior. In case of the release notes, first I see a "Content Warning" but then depending on your interpretation, that content warning is misused when compared with the majority of the Fediverse. And in order to get to the actual release notes I need engage manually which is annoying.
