People always tell me it's weird that I don't know my blood type. Just never had a use for that information. But in conversation I get the impression that everyone does. Weird.
„In Japan, blood types are often used in women's magazines to determine relationship compatibility with potential or current partners. Blood type horoscopes are featured in morning television shows and daily newspapers. The blood types of celebrities are often listed in their infoboxes on Japanese Wikipedia.“ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_ty…
According to the article, it started in the 1970s. It’s a very widely spread superstition. Even if you know it’s pseudoscience, you JUST KNOW. Just like most people know their zodiac sign, even if they don’t believe in astrology.
@johl I live in Finland and have encountered some very pseudosciency blood type claims only recently, so maybe it or something similar is currently gaining popularity here.
I don’t know my blood type. I was told what it is several times, but I keep forgetting it. It’s similar to the rules of the card game Skat which were explained to me about a dozen times, but my brain doesn’t have a place to store that information.
@johl blood type is a pretty important fact during pregnancy, so my partner knows hers, and finds it weird that I don't know mine. I'm sure I've been told but, same as you, I just don't retain that info.
It's also a salient fact when donating blood, which I don't do due to a needle phobia, so another opportunity missed to learn it permanently.
@johl I only recently learned about this because women on dating sites kept listing their blood types and I was all "wtf, why would some stranger care about that in this context?" And then I looked it up 🤦♂️
in the Nachkriegsgeneration (children born during or shortly after WW II), the rumor exists that you need to have matching blood type, otherwise sex would be dangerous.
